We completed our discussion of "The Last Saskatchewan Pirate" and examined the life of Medgar Evers prior to listening to the protest song "Pawn in Their Game". We will conclude our work with protest poetry tomorrow. There will be a poetry exam on Friday, April 7th.

We completed the poetry, theme, and language assignment that is due for tomorrow's class. Students began examining protest poetry that we will continue working with tomorrow.
We completed notes and practiced identifying rhythm and meter in ballads. Students continued work on their poetry theme and language assignment from last day. These questions are due on Wednesday.
We completed our STAR reading assessment and visited the library for exchange. We reviewed the poetry theme and language assignment begun yesterday and handed in "Black Hull" and the figurative language assignment.
We viewed a short documentary on the depletion of the Atlantic cod fishery prior to reading and responding to the Elegy "The Black Hull". Students will complete this exercise tomorrow before moving on to four new poems for analysis.
We discussed the purpose and power of poetry and put it to the test by creating original works of Spamku poetry. Students used their five senses to accurately describe the experience of spam consumption.
We completed our book project today by attaching the covers and lamination to the final product. Any unfinished books must be completed outside of class. I will be available Monday after school and at lunch recess to assist any students who need to cover and laminate their books.
We completed drilling and binding today and began the process of attaching covers to our books. Tomorrow we will laminate and enjoy the feeling of completing a remarkable writing and illustrating project.
