We wrote a short quiz on parts of speech and sentence types before visiting the library. When we returned to the classroom, we completed our notes on punctuation discussing colons, apostrophes, semi-colons, and parenthesis. We will practice some of these forms tomorrow and begin our new unit on business writing.
We completed our examination of commas and Colons and reviewed for the quiz tomorrow. Students received the review assignment back today to support review at home for tomorrow's quiz.
We completed our review of sentence problems and completed an assessment assignment. Many students completed this assessment sheet in class. Those who did not hand it in should have it completed for tomorrow's class so we may move on to punctuation activities.
We reviewed simple, compound, and complex sentences and began examining how to spot and correct various sentence problems. We will complete this portion of the unit on Monday and move from practice activities to an assessment of parts of speech and sentences.
We turned in any remaining paragraphs not submitted last period. We reviewed clauses and phrases and identified simple and compound sentences with our practice material handed out in class.
We used a guide to examine parts of speech used in our descriptive paragraphs. Students identified changes made to their descriptive paragraph that enhanced detail and imagery. All descriptive paragraphs are due no later than tomorrow at the beginning of class. We began our examination of phrases and clauses and will continue with this material in class tomorrow.
We composed our descriptive paragraphs in google classroom and began self and peer editing. Students should be prepared to hand these paragraphs in through google classroom by Thursday. Some time in class tomorrow has be reserved for final revisions.
We established reading goals and discussed the reading logs in class today. Students helped create a descriptive paragraph as a class and began writing their own descriptive paragraphs based on a location of special significance in their experience. Rough drafts were begun in class and will be completed tomorrow before revising and typing these 7-8 sentence long paragraphs into google classroom.
We completed the parts of speech notes and practice activities. Students completed a short assessment covering the 6 parts of speech from this unit. Students are reminded to bring a duotang to class on Monday so we may set up our AR reading logs.
