We completed our review and used our circuit boards to construct examples of the four series and parallel circuits from the assignment as support. We will hand in this review Thursday with a short quiz on Friday. Thanks everyone for beginning to bring in toothbrushes. We will continue to collect these this week and next and will not start building with them until the week of the 12-23. Thanks again.
Today we reviewed double pole switches and began a review of the material covered so far in our mechanisms using electricity unit. We began a review assignment in class today that we will finish up tomorrow.
We completed our write ups for the lunch kit alarms that we built last day. Students then worked on a double pole switch challenge, wiring a switch to control two lights independently.
We completed the construction and testing of our lunch kit alarms. Excellent work building these prototypes was shown by all students. We concluded the class by responding to three questions related to the design and building experience.
We planned and experimented with student designs for the lunch kit alarm challenge. We will build and test our designs tomorrow in class first thing!
We discussed fuses and their role in keeping electrical appliances safe and functional when circuits are overloaded during use.
We completed our switchcraft lab write up and responded to concluding questions related to how our switch designs can be used and improved. Students viewed two experiments related to fuses and how they work within circuits.
We completed two switch challenges today creating on to light when turned upside down and one to light when stepped on. Great problem solving by grade 5 s today.
We discussed various types of switches found in appliances around the home and their function. Students completed their notes and chart in their binder before completing the first switch challenge, building a switch that turns on a circuit when a paper is removed from a clip.
'We completed our quiz boards responded to the inquiry activity with an assessment sheet. Quiz boards were handed in today and will be returned after marking.
