Weather Watch: We conducted a cloud creation lab activity. Students observed and made inferences based on the clouds created in their beakers with water, smoke, and a bag of ice. We wrapped up this activity together, creating a sentence based concluding statement about how clouds are made.
We reviewed Cirrus, cumulus, stratus, and nimbus cloud formations and continued work on our practice questions sheets. The "Types of Clouds" and "Cloud Types" questions were completed in class. Most finished in class; however, if a few questions remain they are asked to complete these so we may correct them together in class tomorrow. If further support is needed, we will review all the material in class together.
We completed our fill in the blank notes for the four major types of clouds and the weather they bring. Students began their assignment questions in class and will complete these in class tomorrow.
We completed our Rain gauge response questions and handed in this and our precipitation assignment. We discussed clouds and made one in class with a few simple tools and air pressure.
We organized our binders and created a unique rain gauge to record precipitation in our own field. Scores for the quiz are posted online but will not be returned until all students have written. We will go through the quiz together in class at that time.
We completed our first quiz and handed in our weather observations from the past two weeks. Students worked to complete any remaining details on their precipitation assignment. Good job everyone.
We discussed the review outline for tomorrow's quiz and studied together as a class before completing our notes on the four forms of precipitation and completing our illustration assignment on snow, rain, sleet, and hail. Our first quiz is tomorrow.
We discussed and drew a diagram of the water cycle. Students created visual and written descriptions of the four types of precipitation discussed in class. We will review tomorrow for our Friday quiz and complete our precipitation activity in tomorrow's class.
We observed condensation as water vapor collected on the side of a cold coffee can. Students completed some notes about humidity before observing a psychrometer built in class for measuring the percentage of humidity in our classroom air. I am glad to say it was much less humid in our room than outside today. We will discuss forms of precipitation tomorrow.
We completed our temperature and wind assessment questions in class after a brief wind experiment. Students read and responded to a short passage about water and precipitation on earth to prepare us for tomorrow's activities.
