In support of the house cup challenges, we completed a potions class in anticipation of our chemistry unit. Students used chromatography to determine the composition of seven different inks. This was an interesting inquiry activity. Groups worked well together and made some cool discoveries.
We discussed barometers and the weather predictions these devices support. Students worked at completing their response questions from our barometer reading and the construction activity we did in class. Scores for quiz #3 and the poster activity are now posted in powerschool.
We completed our quiz #3 and began responding to a short reading about barometers and weather prediction using air pressure.
We studied for our quiz tomorrow by correcting our review questions together in class and defining some of the key terms from our review sheet. We examined home-made barometers and discussed the ability to predict weather using the changing air pressure detected by barometers. We will construct and observe our own home-made barometers over the next few classes. Good luck on you exam tomorrow grade 5s.
We corrected our climates activity and reviewed the effect of Earth's axis tilt on the seasons. We did not have enough time to discuss the review questions for quiz #3 and so we will postpone the exam until Friday. This will allow us to discuss the review and student responses and answer any questions that students had difficulty with. Please work through the Quiz #3 review sheet tonight by reading through your responses or completing any missing responses for tomorrow.
We corrected the first half of our climate questions from our highlighting activity yesterday. Students were given time to complete the remaining questions that are due for tomorrow before working on a climate and clothing choices activity. Students were given and began work on the review for Quiz #3. I have attached it here as well as on the google calendar. This handout contains terms and study questions to help students prepare for our quiz on Thursday.
We submitted any remaining poster projects today. We practiced highlighting techniques using our article on the six major climate regions of the world. Students used the highlighted text to respond to 9 questions. We will complete the remaining questions and correct this activity tomorrow before moving on.
We began our work on a title page/poster assignment. Students are creating a page that defines climate, climate change, human impacts on climate, and what individuals can do to limit climate change by their personal choices. We will continue to work on this poster tomorrow in class.
We completed our viewing of three climate change videos and responded to each individually and as a class. We will use this information to support our poster project that we will begin tomorrow.
We completed our experiment testing the heat capacity of sand and water finding that water had a much higher heat capacity than sand. This helps explain how water and oceans can help regulate climates as they return thermal energy to the air slowly but consistently over time. We began viewing and discussing climate change and will continue with this activity tomorrow.
