We discussed hydroponics, aquaponics, and aeroponics as viable alternatives to growing plants in soil. We set up two demonstrations of this in our classroom garden. Students continued their work on page 162 #1-6. These questions will be due for Friday November 3rd. We should have some class time to finish these on Thursday.

We completed our notes for topic 5 and began page 162 #1-6 as a review after students finished their soil sleuth lab response questions. We will spend time in tomorrow's class finishing this work before moving on to topic 6, Pests and pest control. All Healthy Plant Labs should be submitted at this time.
We completed a soil investigation comparing the properties of three different soil samples. Healthy plant labs not yet handed in are all due on Monday.
We completed our healthy plant lab write up. All labs are to be submitted no later than Monday first thing.
We worked on our healthy plant lab write up today after the fire drill in period 4. Students are expected to have their data from their plant observations in class tomorrow so that we can finish this project in class tomorrow. A photograph or sketch of both plants is required as well but can be completed at home. All labs are due by Monday.
We completed further notes in topic 5 and used some class time to finish our soil assessment assignment as well as complete the reading and definitions from last days anticipation guide. We will finish with the text material tomorrow and begin our soil sleuth lab investigation.
We completed our notes on soil development and fertilizer. Students completed a practice activity identifying the purpose of several fertilizer combinations. We began a preview of terms and began reading the remaining text material for topic 5. We will continue with this material tomorrow.
Students completed their Topic 4 Review from page 148 #1-5. These questions are due tomorrow if they were not finished in class. We began reading and responding to topic 5 by reading text pages 149-155. We will complete some of our notes for these pages tomorrow.
We submitted our "Maintaining Soil Moisture" lab and completed our notes for topic 4. Students continued work on page 148 #1-5, the review for topic 4 that is due on Thursday.
We completed our lab activity for maintaining soil moisture and discovered that organic material spread over the surface of soil does an excellent job keeping water from evaporating even over a whole weekend. Students began work on page 148 #1-5, the topic 4 review questions at the end of our current topic. We will work on these questions more tomorrow after completing some final notes and readings.
