We completed our notes for topic 6 with a few small demos and games to reinforce the concepts of radiation, conduction, and convection in energy transfer systems. I will not see the students for science until Friday when we will resume with topic 6 activities.
We corrected our "Learn the Lingo" activity covering the six state changes in topic 5. We discussed two demonstrations of energy transfer and began our notes for topic 6.
We graphed our plateau data from yesterday and defined "Latent Heat" in our notes before completing the Learn the Lingo sheet and Page 225 #1-5 that is due for Monday.
We completed our topic 1-4 unit B exam today.
We completed our notes for topic 5 and discussed evaporative cooling as a means of lowering temperatures while liquids evaporate. We spent the remaining time in class reviewing for tomorrow's exam. Students have a review outline and practice questions to help guide their exam preparation.
We completed some notes on specific heat capacity and the state changes of matter. Students worked on a sheet activity called "Learn the Lingo" before moving on to a review for Tuesday's topic 1-4 exam.
We corrected the topic 1-3 review today in class and discussed the topic 1-4 test scheduled for next Thursday. Students worked on page 217 #1-5 which is due to be handed in on Friday.
We completed a lab activity today testing the question, "Do different liquids expand at different rates?" We discovered alcohol expands dramatically more than water and cooking oil. Students had time to finish their review questions from page 209 that are due for tomorrow. We will go through these responses together in class.
We completed our Expanding Solids lab activity and continued work on the review questions on page 209 #1-4.6.9. Quiz on topics 1-4 Thursday.
