We completed our work with dichotomous keys and began our saving soil moisture lab. No write up for the lab yet, we jumped right into setting the test up. We will check on our soil Monday after letting evaporation take place over the weekend. Be sure to keep observing those bean plants. I am interested in the findings.
We reviewed terms specific to lab reports and experiments and added these terms and definitions to our notes. We constructed a classification key, also known as a dichotomous key.
We began our "Growing the Healthiest Plant" lab today. Students devised a testable question and a manipulated variable to use in their take-home plant experiment. Students will monitor the growth of their plant over the next two weeks to record at least seven days of data for their final conclusions. Anyone who did not pick up a plant today, can get one tomorrow.
We completed an inquiry activity that focused on the area and revenue generated by field and greenhouse crops in Alberta. Students continued their work on their farm technology posters and will have some time in class on Tuesday to finish this work before moving on in Topic 4.
We wrote our topic 3 quiz today. Marks are posted in powerschool. We began our work on our posters comparing farming technology from 100 years ago to methods and technology today.
Unit B Topic 4
We handed back exercises submitted and made corrections in class to prepare for tomorrow's topic 3 quiz. We discussed and completed notes for crop varieties and green house technology in Alberta. We began our discussion of the change in farming technology over the past 100 years. We corrected a good portion of our topic 3 review assignment and made corrections prior to handing it in for assessment. We examined food crops in Alberta and sustainability in this important industry.
We completed our topic 3 review assignment that is due tomorrow while creating cuttings of African Violet plants. We discussed yield and the economics of farming when income is generated per acre.
