Students worked through an assignment today called "Plant Placement" demonstrating their understanding of temperature variation and wind. We completed a demonstration of warm "air" rising as a key feature in wind creation and weather patterns. Student who did not complete their assignment in class today will have a short amount of time in class Monday to finish before handing this work in for assessment.
We completed our analysis and questions for our anenometer activity. Students handed these questions in after completing them in class with support. Good observations and inferences grade 5s.
We completed our notes for temperature variation and built an anemometer to measure wind speed. Students tested the wind speed of a box fan in the classroom and calculated the measurement in km/h based on the angle of their anemometer. We will conclude this activity's questions tomorrow and begin our review assignment covering the learning we have done so far this year! Great science work grade 5s.
We completed our outdoor measurements for temperature variations. Students completed their lab activity with complete sentence answers to inference and observation questions. We began our notes as a class, summarizing some of our findings from the last two days of observations.
We recorded the current weather conditions at the beginning of class and made inferences and observations related to the variation of temperature in the classroom and on our school grounds outdoors. Excellent work scientists. Discussion and participation have made this a fantastic start to the school year. Thank you all.
We recorded temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind speed, and barometric pressure in our weather watch chart. We will continue with this over several classes to see what differences we can observe. We began our micro climates lab activity predicting where variations of temperatures may exist in our room and out of doors. Great science work grade 5s!
