We began our first personal response essay today. Students created a thought web and drafted introductory paragraphs.
We printed all poems for presentation on Friday and finished our protest poems. This is the last remaining class time to be given for these activities. We began our examination of personal response essays and reviewed the scoring rubric with a handout that explains each of the five sections of assessment. We will begin drafting our first essay tomorrow.
JMHS came by to begin registration for grade 10. Students selected courses and had some questions answered by administration about the upcoming year. With our remaining time, students selected and printed their poem for Friday's reading activity.
We reviewed our "Poetry, Theme, and Language" assignment. Students were given the opportunity to revise, edit, and in some cases, complete the four poem analysis and resubmit their work. This is in preparation for our unit test a week from tomorrow. We discussed and began our search for a poem to read aloud on Friday in our annual poetry cafe.
