We reviewed for our quiz on topics 4-5 tomorrow and viewed a film about the Earth's crust to reinforce what we have learned about earthquakes and plate tectonics. Students used longitude and latitude to plot earthquakes and volcanoes.
We corrected the locating Epicentres activity questions from yesterday and began working on page 405 #1-6. These questions are due to be handed in on Thursday. There will be a short quiz on topics 4-5 on Thursday as well.
We completed our locating epicentres activity and the notes for rock movement in earthquakes. There will be a short Earthquake and plate techtonics quiz on Thursday.
We discussed primary, secondary, and surface waves produced by earthquakes and began our investigation into triangulation to locate the epicentre of these events.
We completed our notes for topic 4 and reviewed the main concepts to support the completion of the topic 4 review sheet that is due tomorrow. We began our examination of earthquakes in the beginning of topic 5 with some brief notes on the Richter scale.
We completed a short quiz on topics 1-2 and continued our discussion of continental drift. We began to unravel the advances that occurred after the second world war that led to an understanding of how continents could move.
We recorded the layers of the Earth's interior in our notes before discussing Alfred Wegner's theory of Continental Drift. Our topic 1-2 quiz is tomorrow.
Some interruptions occurred due to pictures but students were able to work on page 380 #1-4 and 381 #2, 4-10.
We corrected and discussed the topic 2 questions from page 372 #1-6. Students began work on the assessment for topics 1-2 that is due for Friday. We will have a quiz on this material next Tuesday.
