We began our examination of magnets and magnetic fields today. Students were given time to work on their electricity review sheet. 5-3 missed this and will work on it on Monday.
Some classes were interrupted due to presentations today. We corrected our work with resistors from yesterday and began a review assessment sheet that will be due Monday.
We completed a lab activity identifying and using resistors in a circuit to control the intensity of light.
We completed a test of eight materials to see which conducted electricity and which were insulators.
Today we built and tested hand-made switches to control the flow of electricity in a simple circuit.
We completed our work with open and closed circuits today. Our lab response sheet, "open and close circuits" is due to hand in tomorrow if it was not completed in class time today. There will be time for anyone to ask questions before handing this in. Students began investigating what electricity and electrical current is. We will continue with this concept tomorrow.
We created circuits based on our circuit diagrams. Students corrected their exam responses for the Weather unit exam which was returned to all but 5-1 today.
We completed our simple circuit notes and safety package. Students began drawing circuit diagrams that we will follow as we construct and plan circuits with motors, switches, and resistors over the next few classes.
We completed our circuit experiment with one bulb, battery, and wire. Students completed notes on the terms for the parts of a battery and light bulb.
We organized our binders by filing our Unit 1 Weather Watch materials in the classroom. Students may bring these materials home at any time or keep them filed in the room until the end of the year. We created six safety rules from the illustrations in our safety assignment before creating our first circuit. All light bulbs lit up. Well done grade 5s.
