We identified the figurative language in 38 pop culture samples ranging from film to music. Great work everyone.
We reviewed for Thursday's Media Studies unit exam. We corrected the Calvin and Hobbes and "What Makes People Laugh" assignments. Students used the remaining class time to work on their three comic strip analysis assignment in the Google classroom.
We set new reading goals today for term III and visited the library to renew and exchange books. Students completed their comic strip assignments begun Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
Students read and responded to an autobiographical text of Gary Larson, the author of the Far Side comic strip. Students discussed the purpose and effectiveness of comics as a medium and viewed a selection of Larson's work. I will be at a conference tomorrow. Students have been given direction ahead of tomorrow's class to help structure their work time with the substitute teacher.
We began work on a business letter after reviewing notes on the format and style of this type of writing. Students are creating a business letter to outline the issue of homelessness as they see it. They are requesting support from the Premiere of Alberta to address their concerns. This project is found in the google classroom and is due Friday.
We completed an activity today related to colloquial speech. We reviewed and corrected the questions completed last class for the play The Runaway. We have handed in the poetry and imagery assignment and all google presentations should be turned into the google classroom.
Students worked together to respond to the play "The Runaway". Some class time was given at the end of the period to complete and submit the "Imagery and Poetry" assignment that is due Monday. This assignment and the poems can be found in google classroom.
Students submitted their film studies project booklet in today. We read and responded to a newspaper article on homelessness in Edmonton. Students analyzed the article for content and unique aspects of this medium. Quoted was a supervisor of the Hope Mission in Edmonton. Homeless individuals did not seem to have a voice in the article. Students began reading a stage play that has a homeless person as a main character. We will compare these two samples tomorrow.
We discussed any questions related to the film studies booklet activities that are due tomorrow that students had. Students then had time to work on completing any activities in their booklets or the poetry and imagery assignment in google classroom. Film booklet is due tomorrow. Poetry and imagery assignment is due for Monday.
Students used class time today to complete their film studies activities. Most completed the paragraph response in google classroom for activity #6. The film booklets and paragraph are due to be handed in on Thursday. Some students returned to work on the poetry and imagery assignment in google classroom. We will discuss this activity further tomorrow and set a due date at that time.
