ELA 9- We completed reading stave 2 and began the response questions. Discussion questions will be covered in class on Monday. Please read these questions ahead of time and be prepared to talk about them
Science 7- We completed our reading of topic 6 (ending unit 2 material) and began working on some review questions. We will continue with these on Monday. Remember Tuesday's topic 4-5 quiz and review with the study guide this weekend.. ELA 9- We completed our stave 2 vocabulary activity and continued reading stave 2 as a class. Great discussion today.
ELA 8- We completed our character sketches and began reading a historical fiction piece about a father's return home from world war 2. Great class. Science 7- We handed in topic 5 review and discussed the upcoming topic 4-5 quiz next Tuesday. Students received a study guide and we discussed how to use it. We continued reading and discussing topic 6: Pests and Pest control. ELA 9- We responded to two inferential questions from stave 1 and recorded the responses in our notes as a model for future reference. We began reading Stave 2 together and will resume with this tomorrow.
ELA 8- We corrected questions for "Thank You Ma'am" and completed the character sketch for Ms. Jones. Science 7- Students handed in their healthy plant labs. We continued with our reading and notes for topic 6, Pests and Pest Control. ELA 9- We discussed, revised, and completed our Stave 1 questions responses for A Christmas Carol. These questions are due tomorrow.
ELA 8- We visited the library and discussed Term I reading goal progress individually. We returned to the class to complete a character sketch for the two characters in "Thank You Ma'am" and complete the response questions due tomorrow. Science 7- We reviewed the material covered last Friday and discussed the responses to page 162 #1-6 that are due tomorrow. We began our study of topic 6, pests and pest control by reading pages 163-164. ELA 9- We visited the library and reviewed reading goals. Reading goals end December 3rd. We discussed stave 1 and will continue with literal and figurative question responses tomorrow.
ELA 8- Students reviewed their Iron-Barred Door questions and made revisions and additions before handing them in. We discussed Thank you Ma'am and completed notes on characterization. Science 7- We completed our lab write up for the healthy plant lab. All labs are due to be handed in on Wednesday. ELA 9- We revised, edited, and submitted one of the three letters drafted over the last two weeks for final assessment. Students will receive these graded letters back prior to the unit exam where one final business letter will be written. Good work everyone.
ELA 8- We completed a discussion of the non-fiction science articles read in class yesterday. Students worked on the pre-reading activity and then read along with the short story "The Iron-Barred Door". Science 7- We discussed fertilizer and the nutrient content of commercial fertilizer. Students began working with pages 156-160, soil problems and their solutions. ELA 9- We completed letter #3. We will submit a final draft of one of our 3 letters tomorrow for assessment.
ELA 8- We completed and corrected the responses to the story Joy Riding and the article on robots. Science 7- We participated in an interactive floor map in a presentation from Canadian Geographic. ELA 9- We planned and organized a letter of Invitation. We will draft this final letter tomorrow in class. Revision and final submission of practice letters will be concluding on Wednesday. Our Business Letter exam will follow the return of these.
ELA 8- We read and responded to an example of Non-fiction science writing. We discussed genre and science fiction. Science 7- Plant lab observations are due Monday of next week. Students should have seven days of observations in their charts. Plants do not need to be returned to school but a sketch or photo of each plant should be made. We worked on a soil horizons question sheet and will take this up in class tomorrow. Then and now posters are due tomorrow. ELA 9- We completed letter #2 today before visiting the library.
ELA 8- We completed a plot outline for a short film and applied this activity to our story. Students worked on the Joy-riding questions which are due Tuesday. Science 7- Students completed their Then and Now posters which are due Tuesday. ELA 9- We worked through planning and outlining our letter today as a large class. Once discussed, students began or continued writing Letter #2. This letter should be complete by the end of tomorrow's class.
